Strange car. Have never seen anything like it. Hope someone has an explanation.

well, the explanation is that's how they come from the factory, if you can believe it.

just a cost-savings decision made possible by lack of competition within a brand-new market segment. customers who needed seating for nine brats and room for luggage probably weren't going to nitpick.

click that "suburban" tag for more three-doors! and i never even noticed.

Lack of competition? What about the Travelall?

I think on minivans that had only one sliding door, it was so kids wouldn't jump into the street, only to the curb. Regardless, these early 70s Chevys are my favorite trucks ever. Love the color on this one, and the original hubacaps. My neighbor has a fully-restored '72 that's super nice.

side mount gas tank, like the trucks.

Great color, love the original hubcaps. SeattleO nailed it, basically.

Check out the '99-'06 'burb across the street! The basic design never died.

Man, when I see this color and styling, it makes me wonder if any bad looking SUVs came out of the early 70s? Just gnawing on the svelt-completeness of them pre-74 bumpers and side trim. And those hub caps!

Doesn't look remarkably capable of anything off-road, but I'd love to sit in the very back and look out of those side windows on a roadtrip.
