Wow that is pretty great. Those wheels so deeply set, the front ones still able to be turned to steer even behind the fender. So unique. Visiting this site is an education.

It might be right hand drive.

Top speed when fully furnished in the back: 36 mph.

If you like the look of this van, have a look at this site: http://www.commervanfan.co.uk/ You will find an enthusiastic band of owners in the UK, Australia and New Zealand who are keeping this rare model alive. Larger, more practical and reliable than a VW!

"more practical and reliable than a VW!"

a British vehicle?! Hahaha! good one.

Ok, so we're not talking Japanese reliability, but keep an open mind!

You can always do an engine swap!

There are tons of groovy campers, mini RVs and caravans in the UK that can be bought for cheap. I've had my eye on certain Mercedes diesel powered Hymers for a while. Shipping and import duties are not as bad as you might think...

"old tarped cars", nice new (or newish) tag. Quirky little rig, love these old Commers.

And I thought getting that mercedes van into the US was a challenge.

I didn't even know commer existed until 1976, I thought chrysler got rid of it with the rest of the rootes group stuff.

I know its only 1 month into the year, but is it too early to call best ofs? Because this has to make it.

Fun Fact: This van was renamed the "Spacevan" in 1974, taking the award for the most 70's vehicle name ever.

Also sold as a fargo and a dodge, huh. The things you learn because you looked at pictures on the internet.

Nowadays whenever I see anything remotely close to that it's been converted into a classroom- which is a good use nonetheless.
