10 bucks says the number left of these is in the single digits. Damn shame.

That's when Subarus were fugly and quirky. Thank goodness, they WOKE up and got serious in the styling department.

I just saw one of these for sale in eastern Washington on Craigslist. In fact finding other examples of this vehicle is what lead me to this blog! It was a '79 going for $1200. I wish I had the time and space for it!

I believe that's a '77 "Stage II" based on the taillights, wheels, bumper and badging. I have a '79 (same color, even) where all that stuff is slightly tweaked.

People, that has to be a 78.
the 77 had single headlights.
this one was most likely built in 77 as a 78 model year. the 77 is the best looking DL wagon ever. i had one. it broke down and i sold it on ebay for a lot of $ to a guy in north carolina. problem with the 70s subys is that there are no parts available and everything replaced has to be salvaged or fabricated.

thanks, anon. i cracked the Standard Catalog of Imported Cars 1946-2002 this morning and confirmed the following:

"...Styling revisions came for the 1978 model year... The four-wheel-drive wagon now had quad headlamps, along with a revised grille shape."

They were redesigned again in 1980, which makes this a '78 or '79.
