i took a long time shooting this car, since the angles were so limited. only as i packed up and walked away did i realize there was someone inside, on lunch break, i figure. hence the steamed windows.

I have been looking for a picture of this make and model vehicle for awhile with no luck. Evidently no one takes pictures of their UGLY old cars. LOL! My dad and I made it a project over the last few weeks to collect pictures of all the cars we have owned in the past. We are still looking for a Gold 1979 4 door Subaru GL and a 1973 4 door Impala in Butter Yellow (hard top). Have you seen any of those sitting around??? My dad told me to tell you he loves your site!

Wasn't this generation still called "Corolla Tercel" in the US?

good question, coop. interestingly, this 81 hatch is badged "tercel" only, while the 81 coupes and 81 sedans were badged "corolla tercels."

In 1992, I bought a 1982 tercel similar to the one pictured for 500$, tons of rust in Montreal, Canada. All of these tercels rusted heavily at the rear panels in northern climates where salt was used (Vermont, Montreal, etc). Mine was a tercel 4speed. The 5 speed was an upgrade. The car was fun, cheap and easy to repair yourself. Extremely roomy as a hatchback (clothes drier fit no problem).

This was my college car and seeing it brought back loads of memories! It was a great little car but it did rust. I did not think it was ugly at allc

Should be at least a 1980 model as that was the debut year for the Tercel in the US.

It is a 1980. In fact, this is my moms car!! I know because I put that green Grasshopper sticker on the back of it around 1996.

Amazingly, it still runs great. It has 148,000 miles and it just keeps on truckin. And people love it! She gets asked all the time if she's willing to sell it, which until now, she hadn't been ready to do. But now this rust-free classic is up for grabs!

So if anyone in Portland Oregon is interested, she is asking $1500, which is a great deal for such a unique classic ride.

My moms name is Sheila and if interested you can email her at:

mcbeila@aol.com

But be nice to her!

FYI - She's not in a hurry to sell, so the price is firm...

Thanks, Andres!

I edited the post title and tossed it up on Facebook. Good luck. The price seems reasonable to me!

1981 Toyota Tercel SR5 - best car I have ever owned. When I got rid of it, it had 100K+ miles and had never broken down. And, it was NOT ugly. It was AWESOME. I never had a better car since. Have a Toyota RAV4 and am sick of the recalls...sad.
