Gas cap patina. Extremely annoying on my cars, amusing on this one.

Haha, this is my old car. 7 cans of Krylon, and a week later my brother overfilled the gas tank.

Getting closer... Only 12 years older than mine.

right on, stylemon. ben and i both enjoyed the pleasure of a salvage title 91 civic 5-door (or was it a 92?) for many years (t-boned on both sides while in ben's custody). i only parted with it when my wife and i moved to chicago and opted to keep our less ugly volvo 240. what an incredible handling machine, so balanced and grippy and nimble and peppy, with incomparably huge glass and visibility, and just confidence-inspiring in every situation. memories of the civic were certainly influential in our later decision to buy an '04 honda element, which was also a great car.

i'd love to acquire another wagovan and drive it into the ground.

i presume you've already seen this?

yea, i love Wagon Attack! One of the best wagons I've seen. I frequent www.hondacivicwagon.com to get inspiration (and parts) for mine.

For the price, and the MPG, you wont find a more functional daily beater. How do you like the Element? It looks like a fun ride to take camping.

yeah, that site kind of haunts me; i have to avoid it for all the regret and guilt it stirs up. :)

the element was rad. we bought it for $12k, drove it for a year, put 20k miles on it, did absolutely no service on it, and then sold it for $13k. they don't say hondas hold their resale for nothing.

That's a 1980-81 Civic, not 1979.

thanks, sue. checked out your website. glad to know of another vintage honda enthusiast in portland.

Thanks Tony. I'm a huge fan of the 1st gen Civics, and I love this site. Lots of cool cars around this town. I've seen a few that are pictured on this site.
Funny thing though, I have 10 1st gen Civics and none have ever made your list. Lol
