another car-spotting story i should've taken notes on.

the owner came rushing out of house, thinking i was a reporter or private investigator or something, photographing the front end damage, because the car had been involved in a wreck. when i convinced him i just wanted to photograph his unusual car, he totally loosened up. he had been hit, and the other car's insurance had paid out, but this was in 1992, and by that time, parts were already impossible to find. that's why the bumper isn't fixed. i asked if it ran and he touched the hood in a gesture that meant, "engine is still hot, 'cause how do you think i got here?" i think he said it had over 300,000 miles on it. i asked the year, and he said "it's an '82. the truck's an isuzu, and it's an '82, too. even the big white truck is an isuzu. i guess i just like isuzus."

Yup, I have 3 Isuzus, and if I could find an I-Mark like this one for sale in running condition, I would be all over it. Awesome cars.

I did not expect to find an early 80s body style that I liked as much, possibly more than, my Corollas. Fantastic color, fantastic stance, and I'd love to experience the fuel economy for any given length of time. Did he say what kind of MPG he could get?

That thing's got some muscles, but you could definitely have fun with a few different aesthetic directions.

I have a 1981 Isuzu I-Mark diesel COUPE!
Manual transmission, 50+ MPG! (for real)
I'm an international student so when I leave the states I will have to sell it. I love this car!
If you ever find one, BUY IT!

I actually thought the profile pic showed a paper cup on the roof, how funny. I can't believe how much I wish there were a legitimate paper coffee cup on the roof.
