5,000 built for racing homologation, 1,243 imported to the states, probably fewer than 400 still extant. The owner said he'd had a few before before this one, recently cobbled together. 300k miles on the tub and "less" on everything else, tuned to push 200 hp or so.

Finally! One of the all time 80s greats, that hardly any one knows about. Any closeups on those side decals? I want as thorough of documentation of this as possible. There's a company called Corksport in Vancouver WA that specializes in mods for Mazdas like these.
I can't wait to see one in person and chat with whoever owns it. I know it can't be called a sleeper with all those awesome decals and spoilers, but still you know nobody expects to lose to a Mazda 323. Also, probably one of the best cars for remaining invisible to Police.
